Imphal, July 23 2011:
Enforcing prohibitory order of the Government State police personnel today disrupted the second death anniversary observance of Th Rabina Devi and Ch Sanjit, both killed in the infamous BT Road firing incident on this day in 2009 .
Mention may be made that then seven-month pregnant Rabina and former UG cadre Sanjit were slain in the controversial police firing incident along BT Road of Khwairamband Keithel on July 23, 2009 .
Under the aegis of JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Th Rabina and Ch Sanjit, the second death anniversary observance commenced with the offering of floral tributes at the Khwairamband Keithel sites where they were killed from around 9 am.
The main observation function was actually planned at GM Hall but a police team foiled the event on the ground that no permission had been issued resulting in shifting of the observation site to THAU ground as the second option at Manipur Press Club was unlikely to accommodate the large number of mourners.
As the event ultimately resumed at THAU ground along with a public meeting where representatives of various women and student bodies addressed the gathering, another police team comprising of Imphal police station and City Police personnel arrived there and insisted that the meeting should not continue any further with permission of authority concerned.
However, after organisers prevailed upon the police team that the meeting will wind up on completion of functional formality the gathering dispersed shortly afterwards.
