Imphal, January 23 2018:
All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union has demanded unconditional release of its nine leaders who were arrested by police at the earliest failing which ASHA workers would take up different modes of agitation.
In a press release, the union said that a large number of ASHA workers from different parts of the State attended the launching ceremony of Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang scheme on the occasion of Statehood Day celebration at Khuman Lampak Stadium yesterday.
It said that the ASHA workers attended the occasion with a firm belief that certain health provisions for ASHA workers would be announced but the Chief Minister and the Health Minister did not mention anything for the workers.
Organisers of the ceremony misbehaved with the ASHA workers.
This prompted some workers to agitate leading to a brief confrontation at the venue, it said.
Clarifying that no one instigated the workers to do so, the union also demanded the authority concerned to meet the long standing demands of ASHA workers as soon as possible.
Strongly condemning the arrest of nine ASHA leaders, All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State Committee has also demanded immediate release of the leaders unconditionally.
