Imphal, October 22 2023:
The Meitei Churches Advocacy for Peace & Development, (MCAPD) has taken strong exception to the non-bailable warrant issued against Meetei Leepun chief Mayengbam Pramotchand by the Churachandpur District Magistrate.
Addressing a press conference held at Khuman Lampak today, MCAPD spokesperson Phijam Brojen said they haven't heard of Pramotchand or members of Meetei Leepun taking part in the ongoing violence or instigating others to escalate the crisis.
Asking how a mere police complaint lodged against the Meetei Leepun chief by KSO reached Churachandpur Court, he contended that Pramotchand didn't say anything unlawful during the interview with Karan Thapar on June 6 .
He, on the other hand, said that one Rev S Prim Vaiphei claiming the Meeteilon originated from Kuki dialect on social media is baseless and unfortunate.
Saying that such baseless allegations will only escalate the violence and it is akin to rubbing salt to the wound, Brojen asked Rev S Prim Vaiphei to confess for his remark.
The Meetei Christians have been praying for peace, he said and appealed to all the people to advocate peace and refrain from giving senseless statements.
