Imphal, July 22 2020:
Volunteers of Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) today conducted a drive of checking whether shopkeepers provide cash memo to customers at Paona Keithel, Masjid Road, Alu Gali and Thangal Keithel areas.
During the drive many dealers, wholesalers and retailers were found not providing cash memos to customers.
Some of them were even found not having a cash memo book at all.
It may be mentioned here that HERICOUN held meetings with dealers, suppliers, wholesalers and retailers on June 20 and July 8 where it was agreed to provide cash memo to customers without fail.
Those shops found not providing cash memo to customers were given warning that legal action would be taken up.
Speaking at the sideline, HERICOUN general secretary Y Surjitkumar Khuman said, selling of goods at higher prices by businessmen will add to the woes of the common people who are already suffering due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The drive is being conducted to check if the goods are sold at the right prices.
"We received my complaints of shops selling goods at higher prices but there is no evidence to prove it, so no action can be taken up against those shops," he said.
A cash memo will help in making sure that the goods are sold at the actual prices, he said.
He also appealed to the buyers to make sure that they collect their cash memo and urged the State Government to strictly implement the order of showing the price list of the goods being sold at their respective shops by the shopkeepers.
"We have also received complaints regarding the prices of construction materials like steel bar, cement, tiles, glass etc." "We will continue with the drive and we will also cover the hill districts soon," he added.
