Imphal, June 22 2020:
Denouncing alleged buying of toppers and exceptional students who scored high marks in the Higher School Leaving Certificate Examination by some private schools for admission to Class XI, Manipuri Students' federation (MSF) has stressed that such practice of selecting students would have adverse impact on the education system.
In a statement, MSF pointed out that such a process of admission would also create an 'inferiority complex' among those students who fell short of the cut off mark to get admission in several of the prestigious private schools in the State.
The gap between the two sets of students (those who get enrol in the prestigious schools and students who couldn't reach the cut off mark) will become even wider with the present trend of admission, MSF said adding that the Government should adopt policies that would ensure healthy competition among all and ensure growth of those students who are perceived as average.
As most of the well to do families and students eye private schools, the condition of the Government schools may deteriorate further despite the efforts of the teachers and authorities concerned.
Government schools are treated as last resort for students who couldn't get admission in private schools.
Most of the students of Government schools are poor who can't afford admission and tuition fees of the private schools.
It will not be surprising when these Government schools lag behind the private schools, said MSF partly blaming the practice of selective admission of exceptional students for poor performance of the Government schools in the HSLCE and HSE (Class X and XII examinations) .
On the other hand, online admission of some private schools have already started and few have ended their admission processes, MSF said adding such a hasty process amid the COVID-19 pandemic has left out many students, mostly of poor families.
Outrightly rejecting the online admission process, MSF said it will be looking into the matter.
As the COVID-19 pandemic may stay for quite sometime until a cure is available, MSF also stressed that all schools and colleges need to increase their intake capacity from this coming session to accommodate students who have returned from cities across the country.
