Women empowerment held at PT Sports Complex, Churachandpur

A one-day interactive session on women empowerment was held today at PT Sports Complex, Churachandpur under the aegis of Churachandpur District Mahila Congress.
Among others, the session was participated by Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Agriculture Minister Abdul Nasir, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, MLA O Landhoni, Churachandpur DC Jacintha Lazarus and Captain DK Gupta of 46 AR.
In her introductory speech, AK Mirabai said that inability among women to take their own decisions and disrespect amongst women are responsible for all the ills afflicting women.
Unlike in the past where women occupied a lowly position in the social strata, women are now able to take part in State administration, and many women have achieved great success in different fields these days.
She also claimed that the Government of India has been working consistently to bring women at the same status with men.
Women should never forget that they have been shouldering greater responsibilities than their male counterparts in running a family or working for overall development of a society.
To look after and promote well-being of women and children, Women Development Corporation and Social Welfare Board have been set up, Mirabai stated.
Phunzathang Tonsing gave credit to women Congress workers for the success of six Congress candidates in Churachandpur district.
Abdul Nasir underscored the need to empower women if one must bring a meaningful revolution in the society.
He also appealed to encourage participation of women in politics and give their due place in political administration.
O Landhoni highlighted the crucial roles played by women in grooming children.
Jacintha Lazarus spoke on women and administration while DK Gupta spoke on military civic action programme.
