Imphal, June 20 2019:
Construction of Khongsang-Tamenglong road would begin within two months under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP).
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways launched SARDP with the primary objective of providing connectivity to all districts headquarters of the North Eastern States with standard roads.
SARDP is executed by NHIDCL, National Highway Authority of India, Border Roads Organisation or State PWDs.
In Manipur, construction of 40 Kms long Khongsang-Tamenglong road under the same programme would be executed by NHIDCL.
It is speculated that construction of Khongsang-Tamenglong road would require around Rs 350 crore.
Sources informed that the Tamenglong district administration has handed over around 20 Kms of the road to NHIDCL.

But the remaining 20 Kms is yet to be handed over to the work agency.
After construction of Khongsang-Tamenglong road is completed in the form of a two-lane highway with paved shoulder, the same road would be extended up to Haflong of Assam and Nagaland's Peren district.
DPR has been already prepared for Tamenglong-Peren road but a feasibility report is still pending, said the sources.
At present, there is no road from Tamenglong to Peren.
Nonetheless, the same route may be declared a National Highway by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHIDCL may construct the road as a National Highway, the sources added.
