Imphal, March 20 2015 :
Accusing MPP president N Sovakiran of violating the party's constitution and running the party as his private fiefdom, Sovakiran has been asked to convene a meeting of the party's central committee and resign from the post of party president.
Meanwhile, N Sovakiran informed the press that AK Sanaton, L Apabi and N Singhajit were expelled from the party yesterday for their anti-party activities.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, MPP central committee member L Apabi said that a representation signed by 27 members of the central committee has been sent to president Sovakiran today.
Copies of the same representation have also been sent to the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur.
Since assuming the post of party president in March 2013, all the party's activities fell into doldrums.
As a result, the party is on the verge of complete ruin.
Altogether 14 MPP candidates were fielded in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election held in 2012 but no one was victorious.
The party's candidate could not secure much votes in the by-election to Hiyanglam A/C held last year.
Soon after the by-election, the party's symbol was de-reserved by the ECI.
In spite of the plummeting fortune of the party, the party president is more concerned with collection of rents (from shops) and allotment of shops rather than working for revival of the party, Apabi alleged.
He has been running the party like a dictator and if any one raises objections, he/she would not be called to the next meeting of the party.
The annual meeting which is mandatory according to Article VIII (2) of the party's constitution has not been convened till date.
The party president allotted plots for more than six shops without approval of the party's working committee.
In addition, there is a case of collecting Rs 1.50 lakh from an office staff of the party by Sovakiran with the false promise of allotting a plot (for shop) .
In the meantime, one central committee member was expelled by the president even though the president is not authorised to expel any central committee member.
Sovakiran has transformed MPP, one of the oldest regional political parties in the North East, to some sort of a private firm which deals in leasing shops and collection of rents.
Sovakiran is also unable to produce the annual account statement.
The 47 year old party is on the verge of extinction during Sovakiran's tenure as party president, Apabi said.
