Imphal, September 19 2018:
Even though the protracted Manipur University crisis was resolved after an MoA was signed between the State Government and Central Government on one side and MUSU, MUTA and MUSA on the other, a confusing atmosphere has enveloped not only MU but the entire State as two camps have issued a number of notifications/orders which are outrageously inconsistent.
After VC Prof AP Pandey resumed duties (September 1) on the ground that his period of leave had completed, MHRD, Department of Higher Education Deputy Secretary Surat Singh issued an order on September 17 whereby Prof Pandey was placed under suspension with immediate effect.
Earlier, Prof Pandey appointed Prof K Yugindro as Pro-VC of MU on September 10 but Prof Yugindro was suspended by an order issued by Registrar in-charge Prof Sh Dorendrajit on September 18 on the charge of misconduct.
Prof Yugindro was suspended for issuing a notification on September 15 which said that he would not be able to take part in academic programmes of Physics Department.
Meanwhile, MHRD Department of Higher Education Under Secretary Vijay Kumar sent a letter to Registrar in-charge Prof M Shyamkesho saying that the Pro-VC will hold the charge of office of VC as per the provisions of Statute 2(6) of the Manipur University Act 2005.Taking serious note of the inconsistent orders/notifications by the two camps, VC in-charge Prof W Vishwanath sent a letter to MHRD to come out with an unambiguous clarification.
On the other hand, the independent enquiry committee has already begun probing charges levelled against Prof Pandey with Prof Dorendrajit as the nodal officer.
Prof Vishwanath was appointed as VC in-charge after Prof Pandey was given leave.
Subsequently, Prof Dorendrajit was appointed as Registrar in-charge.
But the day Prof Pandey resumed duties as VC on September 1, both Prof Vishwanath and Prof Dorendrajit were suspended from their respective positions and Prof Shyamkesho was reinstated to the post of Registrar in-charge.
Suspension of each other by the two rival camps has created a chaotic atmosphere in the university.
