Highway drug haul of May 9; accused remanded Some details of drug trail emerge

The Special Judge ND&PS Senapati has on Thursday remanded the three persons who were arrested along with drugs worth over Rs 31 crore on May 9 last to judicial custody till June 2 .
In the hearing, the name of one alleged drug dealer namely Lhing Gangte of Moreh has also emerged.
Accused Sonlensei Haokip (23), s/o Thanglun Haokip of G Khonom village, Sangaikot, Chura- chandpur; Jamgoulen Haokip (21), s/o Letthang Haokip of Kingkin village, Churachandpur and Head Constable Lunminthang Haokip alias Mimin Taqchapa (33), s/o (L) Holkholet Haokip of Kholmun village, Churachandpur were produced before the Court by a team of Kangpokpi police today.
The IO of the case through Special PP submitted that a team of Kangpokpi police arrested two of the accused Sonlensei Haokip (driver of the vehicle) and Jamgoulen Haokip along with 212 plastic soap cases containing heroin from Daili village along NH-2 on May 9 last while the Head Constable was arrested in the follow up action the next day.
As per the IO, accused Sonlensei Haokip and Lunminthang Haokip transported heroin together about 10 times in the past.
Sonlensei also revealed that the transportation price of heroin is Rs 500 per soap case and on an average he used to carry 80-200 soap cases of heroin and shared the sale proceeds with the police Constable.
Sonlensei also stated that he started transporting heroin in plastic soap cases in October 2021 and the drugs were supplied by Lhing Gangte of Moreh.
Jamgoulen Haokip, on the other hand, stated that Sonlensei Haokip called him on May 9 and asked if he could accompany him to Imphal without disclosing any details.
Saying that he was picked up by Sonlensei from his residence and had lunch at Moirang, Jamgoulen said that they then proceeded towards Kangpokpi.
They were arrested by the police at Daili village.
Head Constable Lunminthang Haoki stated that he was attached to the CID (SB) Henglep post before his suspension.
Lunminthang continued that he came in contact with Lhing Gangte (59) of Moreh through his friend Mina Gangte (39) and started trafficking drugs in November, 2021 .
The Head Constable also stated that he and Sonlensei had transported 100 soap cases in November, 2021, 100 soap cases in December, 2021, 110 soap cases in January 2022 and 10 soap cases in January 2022 using Ford-Ecosports car which he later sold for Rs 3.5 lakh and bought a second hand Honda City car for Rs 1.9 lakh.
The Honda City car was specially modified to transport drugs, he added.
Lunminthang further stated that he and Sonlensei Haokip transported 170 soap cases of heroin in two trips in February, 110 soap cases in March and 85 soap cases using the Honda City car.
The Court after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record remanded the three accused to judicial custody till June 2 .
