Imphal, January 19 2014 :
The Northeast Regional Sub-Centre here of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) instituted a panel to probe into Asian Games boxing champion Ngangom Dingko Singh's alleged thrashing of three young female athletes.
Dingko, who recently joined the body as a boxing coach, allegedly hit the three female weightlifters over a "petty matter" at the SAI Special Area Games Hostel at Khuman Lampak sports complex here on Monday evening.
The Arjuna and Padmashree awardee poured water over the three women before hitting them with sticks, alleged a senior official of the All Manipur Weightlifting Association (AMWA).
S Aranbala, one of the three weightlifters, is undergoing treatment at the Shija Hospital here, where her condition is reported to be stable.
A senior SAI official on Friday issued an order to set up a committee to enquire into the incident, a source said, adding that another departmental enquiry has also been initiated.
The probe committees were initiated after Dingko failed to offer a convincing argument to officials on being questioned, added the source.
SAI will take necessary action against Dingko as per the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules after examining the probe panels' report, the official added.
The 1998 Asian Games boxing gold medalist surrendered to Imphal PS on Thursday night before he was formally arrested following a complaint lodged by Aranbala's mother, Bilashini.
On Friday, the chief judicial magistrate (Imphal) remanded him to 15 days' judicial custody.
