MCPCR takes up case of girl students

The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has directed the Zonal Education Officer of Jiribam to relocate four girl students taking shelter at Borobekra circle to a safer relief camp so that the displaced students could prepare well for the upcoming class X board exam.
The direction was given on the second camp sitting of MCPCR held at Jiribam by the full bench composed of chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar and two members Md Habibur Rahman and Anita Chabungbam.
The Commission also asked the agency concerned to issue death certificates of the three minors and three women who were abducted and murdered by miscreants last month.
The Commission earlier took suo motu case of the tragic incident and called for speedy investigation and justice as per the laws of the land.
The Commission's bench also directed the ZEO Jiribam who was present during the camp sitting to monitor the private schools so that internally displaced children could avail free education under RTE Act provision of 25 percent reservation meant for socially disadvantaged and economically weaker sections.
Besides, the District Social Welfare Officer was also directed to make payment of the pending amount payable to the children selected for Mission Vaslaya Sponsorship Scheme last year.
The total number of internally displaced Meitei in Jiribam stands at 586 of which 209 are children.
"In respect to Right to Health of children and women, the bench strongly recommended for qualitative improvement of the present CHC or 50 bedded Hospital in Jiribam.
After visiting the hospital and hearing from representatives of the Hospital and complaints, the Commission recommended taking urgent measures at least to make the hospital a safe facility for normal delivery cases.
For that, the hospital authority was directed to depute two gynaecologists and required nurses as soon as possible.
The Commission was anguished to learn the oxygen plant installed in Jiribam hospital premises remains nonfunctional since it's installation during Covid pandemic in 2019.The MCPCR chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar said that leaving the oxygen plant non functional for the last five years is a matter of grave concern".
He urged the medical department to make the oxygen plant functional within 15 days in the best interest of the general public and poor IDP who couldn't afford high expenses for medical treatment.
