Dimapur, November 18 2015:
The Naga Hoho while condemning the action of the Assam Rifles in issuing 'diktats' to the media in Nagaland has said that this is unacceptable to the people.
"While the entire civilized society cutting across Nations are against AFSPA 1958, the notification issued by the Colonel of the General Staff of Assam Rifles on October 25, 2015, directing the Editors not to publish any press statement of the banned NSCN (K) in their papers invoking violations of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, has indeed surprised the people," it said.
The intention of the Assam Rifles to even do away with the fundamental rights enshrined under the Constitution of India speaks volumes, it added.
The Naga Hoho "vehemently condemns" the intention of the Assam Rifles to curb the freedom of expression and to suppress the fourth estate.
The Naha Hoho also condemned the actions of the 15th Assam Rifles, wherein four cadres of GPRN/NSCN were "brutally killed" on November 15 at Leangkoner village under Tuensang district, Nagaland.
"The so called accidental encounter claimed by the Assam Rifles for violation of ceasefire ground rules ending up with loss of four precious Naga lives will not be applauded nor will be saluted by the Nagas," the Naha Hoho said.
It added that the Nagas want peace and it is about time the Assam Rifles displays maturity while dealing with the Nagas.
"Is the Assam Rifles ready to deal with bullets in all the matters relating to the violation of the ceasefire ground rules ?," the Naga Hoho questioned.
"The tale that the Assam Rifles jawans fired while patrolling in self- defense and resulting in the death of the Nagas is not new to the Nagas.
Maximum restraints from confronting against one another even in the matter of violation of ceasefire ground rules is what the Naga people look forward to from any of the armed groups or the Indian security forces. The Naga people have observed that the action of the Assam Rifles in Nagaland is no better than terrorists, as their action towards the Nagas from the beginning till today victimise the innocent people." The Naga Hoho extended its condolences to the family members of the slain cadres.
