Ukhrul, June 18 2011:
After twenty three days of intense agitation, the Students' Union of Pettigrew College (SUPC) finally broke the ice that prevented the students from attending classes with the transfer of the college principal.
Speaking to the The Sangai Express in the back drop of the prolonged agitation of the student body, the secretary of SUPC MK Miya said, amongst the many factors, the major root cause and the biggest hindrance had been solved and this being transferring of the Principal in charge, Mashun Stone from the college to Modern College Porompat, Imphal, under the order of Governor dated June 15, 2011 .
As of now, the students have already started attending normal classes in a cheerful mood after the order reached the SUPC and the same has been notified to all the students of this college, he said.
Regarding the fate of the history students of the college who was left high and dry in the examination hall due to unavailability of question paper during the BA II year exam, the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University has assured that an alternative arrangement will be made at the earliest possible time for the unfortunate students, he added.
Appreciating the support of Ukhrul Students' Union and ATCSUM, the student leader said, the students faced hardship in their effort to meet authorities concerned like education minister during the agitation period.
However, with a fatherly gesture shown by MLA Danny Shaiza by extending fullest moral and financial support to the agitating students the problem could be settled to this extent, he added.
Danny was the only MLA form the whole of Ukhrul district who never abandoned the SUPC in the past and even at present record we are deeply grateful to such an understanding people's representative, he claimed.
Welcoming the new principal in charge of the college Dr Ninghorla Zimik, the student leaders expressed their hope that her coming to the college would ensure smooth functioning of the college and over all development will take place in the days to come.
