Imphal, July 17 2024:
The Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) has accused the Assam Rifles of abetting entry of illegal immigrants into Kamjong district.
In a statement, PLMPAM claimed that illegal immigrants have flooded eight villages in Kamjong district and most of these undocumented migrants are fugitives.
It also said that Rilram Area Maring Organisation (RAMO) had highlighted the cross border movement of Myanmar Nationals near Assam Rifles posts in a recent statement.
Saying that Assam Rifles has failed to check influx of illegal immigrants along Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur, PLMPAM added that the increase in number of illegal immigrants and the subsequent demographic imbalance it causes is interrelated with the loss of Reserved Forest areas.
Many unauthorised villages have been set up by these illegal immigrants, it claimed.
Claiming that people have lost all faith in Assam Rifles as they don't work neutrally, the organisation urged the Government of India to withdraw all security forces from the State which work against the interests of the people.
Further stating that the prolonged unrest in Manipur has taken a heavy toll on every Manipuri, PLMPAM claimed that what has been happening in the State since May 3 last year is unprecedented.
There is no peace in Manipur, it said and added that it was a section of people who orchestrated the ethnic conflict in Manipur.
PLMPAM also maintained that 40 Members of the State Assembly had taken a resolution to replace the Assam Rifles with some other forces in August 2023 .
The biases of the Assam Rifles has to be stopped to end the unrest in Manipur, PLMPAM said.
Instead of relocating population from one place to another, the security forces should take up adequate security measures in both hill and valley districts, it demanded.
Continuing that assault on Meetei villages at Moreh, Churachandpur, Torbung Bangla could have been averted had the Assam Rifles taken up swift action against the aggressors, the organisation asked what were the Assam Rifles doing when Sugnu and Serou were attacked by Kuki militants and their associates on May 28, 2023 .
There were many cases of Assam Rifles stopping State forces from chasing Kuki militants who targeted civilians and security personnel too with the recent being the incident in Jiribam where the paramilitary force stopped State police and CRPF from carrying out a search operation after a CRPF jawan was killed in Jiribam, PLMPAM claimed while accusing the Assam Rifles of taking the side of Kukis.
