Kangpokpi, March 17 2015:
Peeved with the closure of all Catholic educational institutions in Imphal, the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has today urged the people to make every educational institution in the State a disturbance free zone, reports our correspondent.
Emboi Serto, president ATSUM recounted that in 2009, ATSUM and valley-based student bodies had jointly declared all the educational institutions in the State a 'Disturbance Free Zone' but today some bodies unfortunately have failed to ensure the smooth functioning of Catholic schools in the State.
"At the same time, it is unfortunate that some underground elements are disturbing the Catholic schools in the State," alleged Emboi Serto.
He further alleged that in the name of right to education, some student bodies interfered in the process of admission in Catholic schools by demanding quotas and locking up the schools which disturbed the academic atmosphere.
"Why only Catholic educational institutions have been pin-pointed and disturbed while there are countless private schools in the valley ? Do these private educational institutions follow the guidelines laid down by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur as well as those guidelines under Right to Education Act?" questioned Emboi Serto.
ATSUM appealed to all the organizations and public to contribute in solving the imbroglio regarding the matter so as to ensure all the educational institutions are "disturbance-free zone" .
