Imphal, November 16 2019: Moirangthem Joy alias Nongyai, former Organisation Secre-tary of the proscribed UNLF reached Imphal today after serving a jail term of 10 years at the Guwahati Central Jail.

He was accorded a warm reception at Imphal airport by a number of people including family members this morning.

The people who came to receive the former rebel leader shouted slogans like "Long live, Manipur", "Hail Manipur" etc.

Nongyai was arrested by security agencies from Guwahati in 2010 and the NIA registered a case of waging war against the Indian State.

After trial at a designated/special NIA Court, Guwahati, Nongyai was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

Nongyai hails from Wabagai Kadajit and he was a key member of the UNLF Central Committee at one point of time.

Speaking to media persons at the airport, Nongyai said that he felt elated on mingling with the masses after working underground for around 40 years.

He said that he felt humbled on seeing the warm reception arranged for him.

Noting that Manipur is now passing through a very critical phase, Nongyai cautioned that people should not allow emotions or grievances sway the ongoing mass movement.

People should work collectively to settle all the key issues with clear head otherwise these issues would have serious political implications in future.

On being enquired about former UNLF Chairman RK Meghen alias Sanayaima who too was released from Guwahati Central Jail recently, Nongyai said that he had no contact with the former Chairman.

Nonetheless, he opined that security agencies would not have any valid reason to lodge fresh FIR and re-arrest Meghen as all the charges levelled against him including sedition have been quashed by Court.

To another query, the former Secretary Organisation stated that he would take a decision of his own later and added that he would not like to say anything at the moment.

Talking about his experiences inside Guwahati Central Jail, Nongyai maintained that the inmates had a very good relationship with the jail authority.

Inmates were allowed to access the authority anytime.

Nongyai said that he took active roles in opening a gym inside Guwahati Central Jail for the first time among all the jails of Assam.

Guwahati Central Jail provides many facilities such as bed, table, chair, lamp and cable TV which are unavailable in the jails of Manipur, he added.
