Imphal, February 16 2019:
BJP State Unit spokesperson Ch Bijoy has cautioned the Opposition Congress party against any attempt to politicise the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Speaking to media persons, Ch Bijoy said that the Congress party has always been trying to create issues out of thin air in the hope of de-stabilizing the present BJP led State Government.
Recently, the Congress thought that the BJP State Government would fall due to the CAB issue, he said claiming that even if BJP is the majority in the Lok Sabha, the Congress party should not have walked out of the House like it did.
Accusing the Congress party of scheming to overthrow the present Government instead of deliberating the impact which the protests launched by the people against CAB could have in the State, Bijoy alleged that the Opposition has created apprehension and baseless suspicion among the people by claiming the Bill could get passed as an ordinance.
The claims by the Congress that the Bill might be tabled again if the BJP returns to power in the country is an attempt to create tension among the people and ensure that the people stand against the BJP Government, he added.
Bijoy further alleged that the call by the Congress Legislators Party leader to stand together to prevent the CAB from becoming an Ordinance as well as to withdraw the Bill, reeks of an agenda to make the State Assembly seem ignorant of the Constitution as well as to bring PR in the State.
A State Assembly can decide on matters relating to the particular State only, he explained.
The BJP spokesperson then conveyed that since the start of the CAB issue, the Chief Minister had made his stand clear to oppose the Bill until and unless a clause for the protection of the indigenous people of the State was included in the Bill.
CM Biren also pressured the Prime Minister, Home Minister and party leaders in Delhi to refrain from tabling the Bill, he added.
Bijoy further continued that the Chief Minister was warmly welcomed for his tireless efforts to ensure that the CAB was not tabled in the interest of the North East people even though the National leaders wanted to otherwise.
During the ceremony, the CM credited the success to the people, Bijoy added.
He explained that Special Status Category was removed from Manipur in October 2013, during the time of the Congress Government and there was no NDA Government at that time.
The status was removed after wrong and baseless reports claiming that there were no poor people in Manipur, was submitted to the higher ups, he added.
