Imphal, September 15 2022:
Citing the poor condition of the RCC (reinforced cement concrete) floors at Yumnam Huidrom High School (YHHS), Khuraijam Loken, MLA Wangoi AC has asserted that he will not remain mum about issues that could deface the education sector of the State.
The MLA made the statement during an inspection of the aforementioned school today.
It may be noted that Yumnam Huidrom High School is a multi storeyed school newly constructed under the School Fagathansi Mission (SFM) .
Speaking to media persons during the inspection visit, the MLA stated that the school building which consists of a ground floor and a first floor, was inaugurated in December of 2021 under SFM.

However, not even a year since its construction, the RCC floor of the classrooms on the 1st floor of the building are crumbling to the point where one can scoop up handfuls of concrete dust from the floor, he stated.
This has also caused an unfavourable dusty environment inside the classrooms preventing both teachers and students from entering the classrooms, he added.
The MLA also expressed apprehension of the entire school building collapsing in case of an earthquake.
Kh Loken went on to inform the media persons of his resolve to track down the work agency or firm responsible for the shoddy construction of the school building.
In the same breath, he also rued the lack of timely supervision from the side of the ZEO, officials of the Education Department and school authority which could have prevented this unfortunate situation.
As such, he made a broad appeal to school authority and officials of the concerned department to inform their respective MLAs while undertaking such developmental works.
Aside from this, the MLA shared that the State Cabinet had approved upgrading Yumnam Huidrom High School to the higher secondary level.
The school has also changed the signboard which now reads as 'Yumnam Huidrom Higher Secondary School', he said.
However, the ground reality is quite different in that no initiatives have been undertaken to add XI and XII classes, he maintained.
Separately, the MLA also inspected the condition of Hiyangthang-Irom Meijrao road and the Health & Wellness Centre at Irom Meijrao today.
He stated that funds from LADF would be used to repair the road in question if necessary and assured to provide prepaid power connection at the HWC.
