Imphal, February 15 2020:
At a time when the Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) is going through a turmoil due to claims of funds misuse, unidentified miscreants left a hand grenade at the residence of party president Oinam Jugindro at Top Siphai, under Wang-oi PS, today morning.
According to a reliable source, the Chinese hand grenade was found at the gate of Jugindro's residence at around 6.30 am.
Eventually, it was removed by a bomb detection and disposal squad of Manipur police before being disposed at a safe area.
A case has also been registered at Wangoi PS regarding the incident.
Speaking to media persons, O Jugindro alleged that the act might be an attempt by those with vested interest to create more unrest inside the MPP.
He narrated that on February 3, the MPP working committee constituted an observation committee to monitor the party's financial management committee.
Informing that the financial management committee has MPP general secretary (administration) H Gitajen Meitei as the convenor with M Amutombi, L Krishnadas, Y Bhim and S Ibomcha as members, Jugindro claimed that it was found that H Gitajen had amassed around Rs 71 lakh as party funds from some individuals.
After the issue came to light, they began to revolt against the party and as such, the party decided to remove H Gitajen from his post, Jugindro said, adding that in retaliation, Gitajen and his accomplices began trying to get him (Jugindro) removed from the party's Central Committee.
"On February 11, they even held a party and announced that I had been removed from the post of president and primary membership of MPP", he said.
This decision is void as the emergency meeting of the working committee convened on February 7 resolved not to allow the central committee to call any meeting before the investigation concludes, Jugindro added.
He admitted that MPP is getting monetary demands from some UG outfits and alleged that the number of threats and demands made by the outfits increased as the investigation progressed.
However, with regard to the hand grenade found at his residence today, he opined that it must be the handiwork of people with vested interest and an attempt to demoralise and harm the integrity of the political party.
On the other hand, Kanglei Lamjing Development Club, Social Welfare Club and Thongkhong Luxmi Bazaar Nupi Lup organised a sit-in protest at Thongkhong Luxmi Keithel condemning the incident.
KLDC, Top Siphai also came out strongly against the incident, explaining that the route in front of Jugindro's residence is frequented by students and locals.
