NLUP is about using land judiciously: Senapati DC

Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, Jacinta Lazarus, IAS, stated that the New Land Use Policy (NLUP) of the Mizoram Model, was about how the land should be used and does not refer to the legal aspect of the land.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function of a day-long farmers' training programme on "Rice Based Cropping System" under National Food Security Mission, 2013-2014, which was organized by the Department of District Agriculture Office, Senapati at Women's Hall, Rikhumai Taphou, Senapati today, Jacintha also mentioned that lots of consultation is required with the people to implement the policy in view of the confusion caused to many and added that the policy meant to implement at the village level requires the consent of the people.
On the training programme, she said that intensive training and scientific farming is the need of the hour.
When the population is rapidly increasing, there is the need to judiciously use any technology, without which progress could not be maintained.
She also encouraged the trainees to go and disseminate the knowledge they gained at the village level.
The inauguration function was also attended by Dr.Binabon Singh, District Agriculture Officer, Senapati, and Th.Biren Singh, District Officer, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Senapati as Guests of Honor.
About 55 farmers attended the training programme during which S.Thomrei Thangal of Tumnoupokpi, who secured 1st position in the Crop Competition, was honoured with prize.
Two other progressive famers namely T.Elizabeth and Pakhosei Kigen were also given sprayers on the occasion.
During the training programme, demonstration on the use of bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides, etc were conducted, farmers interacted with resource persons to clear their doubt and seeds and other farming materials were provided to the trainees.
