Dimapur, June 14 2011:
The need for developing a system of blood storage was stressed upon today while noting that there are no blood storage centres in all the districts of Nagaland except Kohima and Dimapur.
This was highlighted during the World Blood Donor Day observed here at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat where it was also informed that there has been concerted effort in this regard.
However, the procedure is reported to have problems such as licensing, infrastructural set-up and regular power supply.
Earlier, addressing the occasion held under the theme "More Blood.
More Life", Chief Secretary Lalthara said that blood itself is life while impressing upon that the most precious gift a person can give during his/her lifetime is blood.
He stated that as Christians we should live for others and do good things for others and not ourselves.
Maintaining that our salvation and the whole thing is based on giving to others, he said that donating blood is very significant for Christians.
Elucidating on this, he said "as Jesus Christ became the Conqueror of the world and Conqueror of death by shedding His blood for us, it is equally true for human beings.
"If we give blood, we don't become smaller, but it is an instrument to be bigger and stronger", he added.
Further, he said that those who have overcome fear and donated blood have become much larger.
Also stating that 'giving blood actually stimulates the process of rejuvenation of life", he assured the voluntary blood donors that giving blood will not diminish their life or strength but rather prolong it.
The President of Nagaland Secretariat Service Association, H Lungalang in his welcome address expressed that they try to serve people in their respective tables while thanking the Health Dept for giving the office goers a chance to be part of donating blood for the needy.
He said that it is for the first time that the department had realized the importance of creating awareness among the office goers and while stating happiness for the opportunity, he urged upon staffs to take the chance and donate blood.
