Imphal, December 13 2012:
Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar along with department officials today inspected the Imphal-Mao section of National Highway-39, in connection with the Indo-ASEAN car rally.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the inspection visit, the Minister expressed satisfaction over the road improvement work undertaken along the 61kilometre long route, specially for the rally.
He said that it has been implemented smoothly and progressively.
Opining that as works related to mending pot-holes have been completed the rally participants would not face any major obstacle, Dr Ratankumar also exuded confidence that the road improvement work at Kangpokpi area assigned to one SK John would also be finished in a day or two.
Compared to the previous inspection visit last month the said Highway section has improved tremendously, he maintained while confiding that the Government is planning to develop the road as a long-term project.
Pointing out that the Indo-ASEAN car rally is for spreading the message of peace and development in the region, Dr Ratankumar also urged every section of the society to make the rally smooth and successful.
The Minister's peace call assumes significance as a Kuki organisation had already declared that it would enforce public boycott on all the highways from December 14 evening, a day ahead of the scheduled arrival of the rallyists into Manipur from Myanmar side.
Mao AC MLA Daikho Mao and PWD Additional Chief Engineer Kh Tomba also accompanied the Works Minister.
