Absconding drug peddler held

Imphal, June 13 2011: Personnel of Imphal West District Police, Narcotics Cell have arrested an absconding drug peddler early morning today.

Talking to mediapersons in this connection, OC of the Narcotics Cell Inspector W Ibocha informed that the drug peddler identified as Md Sahidur Rahaman (28) of Hatta Golapati Maning Leikai under Imphal East district was arrested from the house of his sister at Oinam village located near Imphal Barrage at around 3.30 am today.

Ibocha said that his personnel had conducted a raid at the Hatta Golapati Maning Leikai residence of Sahidur in the afternoon of June 8 and seized 15,120 capsules of Spasmo Proxivon (SP) tablet.

But Sahidur managed to escape.

The personnel of the Narcotics Cell have since been on the trail of Sahidur for the last few days and managed to arrest him from the house of his sister Serabanu at Oinam village early morning today.

Worth around Rs 2 lakhs, the drugs seized from the house of Sahidur was found concealed among second hand garments, the OC disclosed, adding that the drug consignment had been brought from Delhi to Guwahati by flight and by bus to Imphal.

Along with the arrest of Sahidur, one Mahindra Deuro scooter (MN-06A/3311) used by him in transportation of the drugs from one place to another inside Imphal has been seized, the police officer further disclosed.

A case has been registered and further investigation is on, Inspector Ibocha said, adding that drive to seize drugs which are being misused by the youngsters would continue.
