Imphal, October 12 2024:
Representatives of the Ad-Hoc Committee of All Manipur Elected PRIs of 2017 have submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Achar-ya over not holding of Panchayat elections for nearly two years and other issues.
In the memorandum, the committee said that Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Manipur are now in a horrible condition with no devolution of power.
Saying that there is no Panchayat election in Mani-pur for the past 23 months, it added that the terms of the 5th Gram Panchayat ended in October 2022 .
The Committee went on to state that the Government not holding 6th Panchayat election is undemocratic and violation of the Indian Constitution.
Claiming that the State Government also interferes in the functioning of PRIs frequently, it maintained that the State Government violated Section 22 of Manipur Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Act by setting up an administrative committee of every Gram Panchayat and Zilla Parishad.
