Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Ward number 7 Member, Tensubam Sobhini, has alleged that unethical practices were carried out at the 5th Panchayat General election which was held on October 7 and the election officials who were on duty did not give voters proper chances to exercise their voting rights .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, she said that there are a total of 494 voters in Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Ward number 7 but only 441 individuals cast their votes in the Panchayat election .
Expressing doubt about the number of votes (439) on the counting day, she opposed the declaration of the election result and demanded a repoll .
On the other hand, speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, one Khangebam Rajchandra of Ngaikhong Gram Panchayat, also alleged malpractices at the election conducted at ward number 4,7 and 8 of the Gram Panchayat and demanded a repoll .
He expressed suspicion about the Presiding Officer and the RO of the polling station intentionally leading the elderly to cast vote for their (the officers') desired candidates, as only 396 were shown as having voted while 398 actually cast their votes on election day .
On the other hand, one Md Rahman of Heitroipokpi Khongnangpal, Thoubal district, claimed that a mob of around 100 individuals came and vandalised his house in connection with the 5th Panchayat election and also thrashed some of his family members .
Speaking to media persons, Rahaman claimed that one Md Ajiz alias Amuba (28) s/o Md Rahimuddin, Md Salamat (35), Md Tahir Ali (50) and Nanao (22) s/o Md Islamuddin, came with around 100 unknown individuals and vandalised his residence .
He claimed that two of his family members are in the hospital after the mob thrashed them and alleged that the mob were supporters of the Ward Member of the Gram Panchayat, Md Abir.
