Imphal, September 12 2024:
The Manipur Students' Association Delhi (MSAD) and the Manipur Innovative Youth Organisation, Delhi (MAIYOND) have endorsed the six point demand placed before Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya recently on September 9 .
Of the six demands, one was to hand over the charge of Unified Command to the Chief Minister which oversees security operation in the State while another was to remove Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh.
MSAD and MAIYOND, in a joint statement, said that they support all the steps and the movements taken up by the students.
The two associations also said they have noticed armed militants adopting a new violent technique in the form of aerial bombing.
Stating that the strong movement which the students took up is the need of the hour during the crucial period of Manipur, MSAD and MAIYOND continued that students and youth have to play important roles for any change to be brought in the society.
The Unified Command has shown its inefficiency by failing to resolve the crisis in Manipur which is entering the 17th month, the two associations maintained.
Saying that they condemn the use of brute force on students by Central and State security personnel during the recent protests which led to the injury of over 60 students, MSAD and MAIYOND added that people have the fundamental right to stage democratic protests within the framework of the Constitution.
"If the actions of these forces were done to the militants, the fresh violence could have been controlled to a big extent," the two associations said while praying for the speedy recovery of the injured students.
