Imphal, June 12 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) members including its co-ordinator, Somorendro Thokchom visited Jiribam and met the displaced people in relief camps today.
Speaking to reporters, Somorendro said there are around 250 people staying at Bidyanagar Sports Complex, which is congested and causing inconvenience to the inmates.
The sports complex is congested and people are finding it difficult to cope with the warm weather.
Half of the people may be shifted to Jiribam Higher Secondary to decongest and provide them more space, he said, adding this proposal will be taken up with the Government for necessary arrangement.
He further expressed concern that many in the relief camp have fallen ill, and as such, the district administration will be informed to take up necessary steps.
COCOMI's media co-ordinator Yumkhaibam Surjit Kumar too stressed that the sports complex lacks the basic amenities to accommodate 250 people.
As many have fallen ill due to warm weather, extra precaution must be taken up to avoid spread of diseases among the inmates.
The relief camp needs doctors and medical staff to regularly assess their health, he said.
