New Delhi, March 11 2015:
Raising the issue to encourage sports and Manipuri language, BJP MP Tarun Vijay said during the zero hour today in Rajya Sabha that Manipur is reeling under insurgency and corruption problems.
He demanded that Manipur should be declared the sports capital and the process of setting up a Sports University there should be expedited.
He demanded that the Govt must investigate the Rs 224 crore Loktak lake scandal and provide best of sports facilities to Manipuri youth who are 'born sportspersons' .
He said that Manipur, with a population of just 27 lakh is suffering because of more than 38 insurgent groups and rampant corruption under CM Ibobi Singh's Congress Govt.At the same time, the BJP leader also rued that Hindi language was virtually "banned" in Manipur where even a film on renowned boxer Mary Kom was not screened because it was in Hindi.
No language should be banned in India, Tarun Vijay said and emphasised "we must put a healing balm on Manipur by encouraging their great language" .
Though Manipuri has been recognised by Govt under 8th schedule, yet it doesn't find a place on our currency notes.
Let that anomaly be corrected, Tarun Vijay demanded.
He said that though Modi Govt has approved a sports university for Manipur, still the State Govt has been unable to find a place for it.
"I request the Sports Minister to make a tour of Manipur and persuade the State Govt to get a space for the sports university," Tarun Vijay said.
Tarun Vijay's demands for Manipur were supported by MPs from various parties like Vishambhar Prasad Nishad , Sharad Yadav, Bishwajit Daimury, Avinash Rai Khanna, Anil Dave, Meghraj Jain, Jaya Bachhan, Vivek Gupta, Md Nadimul Haque and D Bandopadhyaya.
