Human Rights Day observed across State

As observed across the globe, Human Rights Day was also celebrated in the State on Friday with the theme, "Equality".
Human Rights Day is observed annually on December 10 to raise awareness about the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being and to celebrate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations in 1948 .
KAKCHING
In line with the observation of Human Rights Day, Center For Women And Girls in association with Azim Premji Foundation and Terre Des Hommes organised a public rally with the theme "Equality-reducing inequalities, advancing human rights" at Khopinom village.
The event was held in collaboration with Kuki Students Organisation, Tengnoupal Block; Child Welfare Committee, Chandel & Tengnoupal; Thadou Student Organisation (GHQ); All Tribal Women Organisation; Childline Chandel and Ching Tarn Apunba Nupi Lup, Pallel.
The rally flagged off by Ching Tarn Nupi Lup Pallel president, Nungshi went from Khopinom village to Kotlenphai.
Placards with the slogans, "Justice delayed is justice denied", "Human right for humanity", "No human should be without rights", etc were extensively used at the rally.
TAMENGLONG
Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Tamenglong College in collaboration with the Department of Political Science also observed Human Rights Day at the college Multipurpose Hall on the theme, "Equality".
It was attended by Dr N Daimei, Principal; Namsurei Thomas Kamei, coordinator IQAC; Ngamtinlun Touthang, assistant professor; and Ninglu, HoD Political Science.
Speaking on the occasion, Ngamtinlun Touthang denounced the recent incident at Oting village in Mon district of Nagaland and urged all to pray for the bereaved family.
Talking about gender equality, Touthang opined, "it is only through quality education with skills, be it professional or vocational, that the fairer sex can be empowered" .
THOUBAL
District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal in collaboration with Manipur State Legal Services Authority also observed Human Rights Day through Jitsi Meet platform on Friday.
It was attended by Bineshwori Maibam, secretary DLSA Thoubal; Lisham Pramo Leima, PLV; and W Jiban Singh, PLV among others.
In her keynote speech, Bineshwori stressed on the significance of Human Rights Day and the need of awareness on human trafficking among the functionaries of the Legal Services Institutions.
Thokchom Premlata, Advocate, Assistant Director, Human Rights Law Network, Manipur spoke on "Human trafficking and its impact on human rights".
The event was also participated by Para Legal Volunteers, Panel Lawyers and members of CSOs as nominated by the Legal Aid Clinics under the aegis of DLSA, Thoubal.
