Imphal, November 10 2024:
On account of frequent and prolonged economic blockades on National Highways, poultry and cattle feeds have become quite scarce thereby giving a serious blow to both poultry and cattle farming.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Manipur Poultry Development Association (MPDA) general secretary Chongtham Budhatara Khaba said that poultry and cattle farmers have been hit hard by the economic blockade being imposed on Imphal-Dimapur highway by the Naga People's Organisation (NPO) due to scarcity of poultry and cattle feeds.
He appealed to both the protesters and the Government to come to an agreement.
NPO's economic blockade has completed 10 days.
Before this, SAPO closed Imphal-Dimapur highway to heavy vehicles citing pathetic condition of the highway.
The back to back blockades have been causing immense suffering to all sections of people including poultry and cattle farmers but the Government has been doing nothing to open the highway, he decried.
He also appealed to all protesters to exempt livestock from bandhs and blockades.
Saying that some cattle and poultry have started dying due to interruption in feeding, Budhatara said that the number of poultry and cattle farmers have been declining day by day due to frequent bandhs and blockades.
Thus a large number of people are becoming unemployed even though the Government has been repeatedly preaching self-employment, he added.
