Senapati, September 10 2019:
The Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has expressed "strong resentment" over the alleged appointment of Joint Director & DDO post to a non-tribal and a "Junior most" officer in Directorate of Tribal Affairs and Hills (TA & Hills) department, GoM.
The SDSA, in a press statement issued on Tuesday, said that it has questioned the hidden motives of the State Government over such anomalies which breach the rules and protocol of Government orders (No.1/12/2011-TA &Hills) by appointing a "junior-most" officer (deputy director) totally disregarding the tradition of the department to appoint a tribal officer as HOD/DDO.
"Such act of undermining tribal officers is indeed "unacceptable and highly questionable", the student body stated.
The SDSA then said that it is making its stand clear that the traditional practice of the department to appoint a tribal officer as HOD/DDO is in public interest considering the serious need to address welfare of the tribal population and hill districts of Manipur.
"Moreover, the attempts made by certain individual to forcibly breach Government rules and protocol through political might is uncalled and anti-tribal", the SDSA asserted.
It then cautioned that the student body will not remain a silent observer over the "unwanted" issue but will react accordingly until the State Government considers the plight of the tribal.
"Therefore, the SDSA requests the State Government to immediately revoke the appointment order No.26/38/2019-TA & Hills- (Misc) dated August 29, 2019 of the present Joint Director/DDO but instead appoint the senior most and appropriate tribal officer," the SDSA demanded.
