Women vendors of three Ima Keithels and Khwairamband bazar temporary market shed have announced a 24-hour bazar area bandh against the visit of Chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee, Government of India and Interlocutor for Naga peace talks, RN Ravi at Kwairamband bazar area with effect from today (September 10) midnight.
Speaking to reporters, Nupi Keithel Sinpham Amasung Saktam Kanba Lup secretary Th (o) Rani urged the shopkeepers of Paona Keithel, Thangal Keithel, Wahengbam Leikai, Nagamapal and adjoining areas to extend support to the bandh.
Earlier, the women vendors took out a protest rally on BT road to proceed up to Raj Bhavan denouncing RN Ravi's visit to the State.
However, police blocked them near the western gate of Kangla.
The women protesters shouted slogans like 'we oppose RN Ravi's visit' and 'go back RN Ravi'.
Th (o) Rani said that they tried to stage demonstration along Kanglapat road as they received information that RN Ravi would come on the road to reach Classic Hotel.
She said that the Government of India has been keeping the public in dark regarding the contents of the peace agreement signed with NSCN (IM) on August 3 last.
Rani alleged that RN Ravi's visit aimed at disintegrating Manipur by playing divide and rule among various communities of the State.
As such, he must go back immediately, she demanded.
Rani also cautioned the Centre that people of Manipur would stand against any attempt of State's disintegration.
