AR recovers imported sanitizers worth Rs 1.66 crore at Khudengthabi

Imphal, August 10 2020:
Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), on Aug 9, at around 2:00 pm, stopped a Tata truck and a Tata DI travelling from Moreh to Imphal at the Khudengthabi check post, said IGAR (S) .
On carrying out thorough checking of the vehicles, the troops recovered 589 cartons of foreign made sanitizers worth Rs 1.66 crore approximately, along with 64 cartons of 'Alcohol Spray', 1 carton of fish feed and hooks worth Rs 7.68 lakhs.
The cost of total items recovered was around Rs 1.74 crore.

On enquiry, it was found that the Tata truck was driven by one Laishram Inao Singh, S/o Mr L Birachandra Singh of Chingmeirong and the Tata DI was driven by one Konjengbam Ranjan Meetei alongwith Maibam Herojit Meitei, both of Khunou Leikai, Moreh Ward No 9, Tengnoupal district.
The drivers were not in possession of any documents or bills.
The Superintendent of Customs Department, Moreh was contacted to clarify the same, who confirmed that these items had not passed through the ICP.
The apprehended persons along with the recovered items were handed over to Customs Department, Imphal for further investigations.
