Humbly conceding that providing solar lamps and food items to the orphanage is a 'very small' gesture, the Commander also expressed hope that today's event will attract the attention of others in extending material and moral support to the orphanage.
The distribution programme was organised under the aegis of Commandant 28 Assam Rifles (Lilong post) Col Sanjeev Kumar.
It is informed that the orphanage established in 1998 has developed on its own sources and assistance provided in terms of donation by well-to-do people of the area.
In all 220 orphans girls in between six to 14 years, from different regions of the North East are staying at the orphanage, where due to erratic power supply the children had been facing severe inconveniences in their pursuit for excellence in education.
Understanding the genuine problem being endured by the orphanage the 28 Assam Rifles (Lilong post) took the initiative for contributing its mite in mitigating the problem to some extent.
