Imphal, August 09 2022:
Ahead of Patriots' Day (August 13) observance, the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak has paid rich tributes to all the patriots who fought valiantly against British imperialist forces.
It has paid homage to Koireng, Thangal, Chongtha Mia, Chinglensana, Chirai Thangal and all the patriots and heroes who paid with their lives for the cause of the freedom of Manipur/Kangleipak.
The outfit also paid homage to all the revolutionary fighters of different groups who sacrificed their lives to win back the sovereignty of Manipur/Kangleipak after it was allegedly annexed by India.
While the people of the land fondly remember all those patriots/heroes and observe the Patriots' Day every year, India has been deliberately creating confusions among the masses, SOREPA alleged in a statement issued by its publicity secretary MC Yaiphabi.
It said that the Government of India has been trying to project the patriots and heroes of Kangleipak who fought against British forces to safeguard the sovereignty of the land as freedom fighters of India.
Observation of Patriots' Day (August 13) was started by some leaders of the land who were determined to win back the sovereignty of Kangleipak and inspire the younger generations to create a new society free from bondage, it said.
The outfit also conveyed respect to all those leaders who started observation of the Patriots' Day and motivated the people of Kangleipak for a liberation movement.
As every locality started observing the Patriots Day, the Government of India realised that it would be impossible to stop the people from observing the day.
As such, the Government of India co-opted the Patriots Day and joined the Patriots Day observation.
Thus the war fought by Kangleipak/Manipur against British imperialism was somehow linked with the freedom struggle of India, it said.
It is essential for all the people to be wary of India's attempt to manipulate the history of Kangleipak and understand the political conflict between India and Kangleipak, the outfit asserted.
Saying that Manipur/Kangleipak was forcibly merged into the Indian Union, the SOREPA alleged that the annexation of Manipur is a clear testimony of India's expansionist policy and how it violated the United Nations' principles.
Alleging that India has been occupying erstwhile independent Nations of WESEA, the outfit remarked that it is a case of colonialism, imperialism and crime against humanity.
As such, there is no reason for the people of WESEA including Manipur/Kangleipak to join the Indian Independence Day celebration on August 15 .
Maintaining that the instruction of hoist Indian National flag over every house is an open challenge to the sovereignty of the people of Kangleipak, the outfit asserted that it's time for the United Nations to intervene into the alleged occupation of WESEA by India.
Asserting that Manipur won back its independence from British colonial rulers on August 14, 1947 before it was alleged usurped by India in 1949, the outfit claimed that they have been fighting relentlessly to restore the sovereignty of Manipur/Kangleipak.
It then called a general strike all over Kangleipak from 4 am to 6 pm of August 15.However, medical services, fire service and water supply would be exempted from the purview of the general strike, it added.
