Imphal, August 09, 2013:
As in other parts of the country, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) commemorated the demand that the British withdraw from India by observing 71st memorial func-tion of Quit India Movement at Congress Bhavan here today.
During the observation, participants led by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam paid floral tributes to the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, and to the photographs of other freedom fighters.
Speaking at the occasion, Gaikhangam stressed that the observation is not only to commemorate the protest to withdraw foreigners from all over the country but also to acknowledge the sacrifice made by the freedom fighters.
The Deputy CM then urged the people of the State to recall the Movement which protested foreigner's ownership of the country and the subsequent strength and sacrifice of the freedom fighters, and be ready to sacrifice for the unity of Manipur and India.
"Let us make the State sufficient and equal reigns in both the hills and valley", he added.
The observation was attended by Ministers, MLAs and Congress workers.
