Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West remanded a 38-year-old man, charged with attempted murder of an 18-year-old youth, to judicial custody till June 23 .
The accused Thokchom Tonny, s/o (L) Babumacha of Uripok Naoremthong Thakhelambam Leikai was produced before the Court today by a team of Imphal Police Station along with a prayer for judicial remand for further investigation.
He had allegedly tried to murder 18-year-old Warepam Bhopendro, s/o Rupachandra of the same locality.
Investigating Officer of the case through APP submitted that according to Warepam Anita, aunty of the victim, the man allegedly axed the left hand of Bhoprendro near her residential gate at around 8.40 pm yesterday.
Bhoprendro was badly injured on left hand elbow and was evacuated to RIMS hospital.
Later, he was referred to Raj Medicity for surgery.
After the incident, Tonny was allegedly threatening everyone and behaving violently.
Police had to use aerosol gas to subdue and arrest him at around 11.30 pm yesterday.
Police also seized one axe, one long sword and a knife from his possession.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to have committed the offence.
The IO alleged that the accused had intentionally assaulted the victim with intention to kill.
The IO further submitted that the accused is an ex outlawed cadre, having knowledge of weapon handling and was involved in another incident involving arms.
He had snatched weapon of the then OC Imphal Police Station in the year 2018 during a public meeting, claimed the IO .
