Thoubal, April 09 2022:
The indefinite bandh called by the people of Sora on Imphal-Moreh highway against the Government's attempt to demarcate land acquired for setting up a mega food park at Yaithibi Loukol has been suspended till 6 pm tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at Sora today, one Md Abdul Gaffar said that the people who own homesteads and paddy fields at Yaithibi Loukol have been protesting the Government's attempt to demarcate certain areas in the name of setting up a mega food park.
They even imposed an indefinite bandh on Imphal-Moreh highway but the same has been suspended till 6 pm tomorrow following Chief Minister N Biren's assurance to work out a solution to the issue through dialogue, Md Abdul Gaffar said.
He said that the indefinite bandh would be resumed if no solution could be worked out at the proposed meeting with the Chief Minister.
Notably, Government officials accompanied by a large number of security forces carried out demarcation work at Yaithibi Loukol yesterday but the local people opposed the same exercise vehemently which resulted in a violent confron- tation between the two sides.
A police booth located at Sora Chinglak and a motorcycle (Bajaj Pulsar) were also set ablaze by a mob yesterday.
