Villagers of Hunphun pledge to protect the integrity of the village

Ukhrul, March 09 2021: A public pledge programme called "Zungphunsa" to protect the integrity of the village by symbolic distribution of piece of meat to all households of the native villagers was held yesterday at Hunphun in Ukhrul district yesterday.

Zungphunsa in other words is to take the risk by shouldering equal responsibility while defending the inalienable rights of the land and is a Tangkhul customary practice promulgated in time of critical situation or emergency arises in the village.

Hunphun Hanga Wungnao (village Authority) invoked this decision of Zungphun, as they thought that there is a threat in the integrity of the village.

Speaking at the sidelines, HA Sarimaya Hunphunwo/headman of Ukhrul village expressed that Zungphunsa was organized during his reign to bring peace and unity among the villagers and non local settlers of Ukhrul town under his jurisdiction.

He further cautioned not to interpret wrongly about Zungphunsa as it has nothing to do with hostility or dissociation but to bring stability in his administration and work sincerely with his Hanga Wungnao (clan leaders) for the betterment of the village.

Therefore, he sought the consent of his villagers by performing Zungphunsa and is very significant & historic day for Hunphunnao (native villagers), he added.

According to the reports, more than two thousand pieces of meat were distributed.

The programme for Zungphunsa was held at the residence of Hunphunwo/headman at Awungtang, Ukhrul village.
