Imphal, February 09 2025: All village volunteers arrested by the police must be released immediately without any conditions, said Telhou Meira Paibi.

Seven persons who were arrested from Telhou yesterday night are village volunteers.

They were sleeping when a team of State force picked them up at midnight, said Thangjam ongbi Chandani, secretary of Telhou Meira Paibi.

Asking which state force had arrested the seven village volunteers, she said, Lamlai police station has denied any knowledge of the incident.

The seven were village volunteers who were forced to defend Meitei villages due to sheer failure of the security forces in facing Kuki militants' aggression, she said.

Their love for the land and community, and circumstances forced them to become village volunteers.

They can't be arrested for protecting their families and villages from Kuki militants, she said.

The village volunteers who have been arrested by the police must be released immediately without any conditions, she added.
