Imphal, December 08 2012: Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Imphal West observed the Day for the Persons with Disability on the National Day for Mentally Retarded at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound today.

Imphal West DC K Radhakumar and SSA/SMA Additional Project Director Ng Bhogendro Meetei were the chief guest and president of the function.

Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, K Radhakumar said, the phrase 'differently abled persons' is more appropriate than 'disabled persons' while addressing to physically challenged persons.

Ng Bhogendro while speaking at the function said, under Right to Education, the Government is putting in effort to provide free and compulsory education to all the children between the age of six to 14 years.

SSA has been planning to implement different schemes for the differently abled children for their convenience, he said and adding that people must extend full support so that they may excel in their field of expertise.

Colourful cultural items were also presented in the programme.
