Locals of Phayeng allegedly detained three Forest officials for putting up a signboard which classified a certain area as Kangchup Chiru Reserved Forest today at around 1 pm at an area which come under Phayeng.
Reportedly, the incident took place after the staff of Kangpokpi Forest Division installed a signboard which wrote Kangchup Chiru Reserved Forest.
Taking strong exception to the development, locals there detained the Forest officials and asked them to take down the signboard.
The three Forest officials were released after they assured to take out the signboard and tendered apologies for not consulting with the locals first.
Later, a team of Imphal West police rushed to the area to prevent the situation from escalating.
Speaking to the media, former Pradhan of Phayeng Gram Panchayat Angom Gojendro said that the land where the Forest officials erected a signboard belongs to Phayeng.
He also said that land was given to the Phayeng people by the Manipur State Darbar in 1932 .
