Drugs worth Rs 120 crore seized, 'factory' busted

In a major breakthrough, a joint team of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (South), along with personnel of Maphou PS, busted an illegal drug processing cum manufacturing plant and recovered a huge quantity of drugs worth around Rs 120 crore from Kamu Saichang area, Kangpokpi district today.
A statement issued by IGAR (South) mentioned that based on specific input, the Assam Rifles troops launched an operation and busted the illegal drug pro-cessing and manufacturing plant.
The plant was being utilized to extract morphine from opium, which was further processed into brown sugar and heroin.
During the detailed search, the team recovered approximately 29 kgs of heroin brown sugar (solid), 20 litres of brown sugar (liquid), 8 kgs of marijuana, as well as equipment and chemicals used for processing the drugs.
The drug after processing, was being supplied in loose bags and in the form of moulded bricks to the youths of Manipur and Nagaland, it added.
A lady, identified as Elizabeth Khongshai, was apprehended by police while the owner of the house in which the drug processing plant was functioning, is presently absconding.
The value of the recovered contraband items is approximately around Rs 120 crore in the international market, it mentioned, adding that the arrested woman and seized contraband items have been handed over to Maphou Dam PS for further investigation.
