Imphal, February 08 2014 :
Employees of Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) today continued with their relay hunger strike at RD Wing Lamphel on several demands including regularisation of service.
As part of all India strike called by All India AIDS Em-ployees' Association, MACS Employees' Association also launched indefinite cease work strike from Jan 30 .
Due to lack of positive res-ponse from the authorities relay hunger strike was laun-ched yesterday, informed a MACSEA statement.
MLA RK Imo today visited RD Wing Lamphel and met employees who are on hunger strike.
Representatives of MACSEA submitted seven charters of demand to him and narrated how National AIDS Control Organisation has failed to redress employees' grievances in National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) phase IV which is scheduled to be launched formally later this month.
MACSEA lamented that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who is also the chairman of MACS governing body, refuses to give time to meet its representatives.
Due to the strike, Integrated Counselling and Tes- ting Centres (ICTCs), Prevention of Parents to Child Transmission (PPTCT) centres, ART and Link ART cen- tres across the State were shut down.
However, ART and Link ART centres were allowed to open from Feb 4 after a meeting of the Association to render continuous services to ART patients.
