Mission Indradhanush launched in Manipur

Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing on Tuesday launched Mission Indradhanush in the four hill districts of Manipur at YPA GHQ Hall, Hiangtam Lamka Churachanpur District Head Quarters.
Speaking on the occasion Health Minister Tonsing said, "The programme provides immunisation against seven life-threatening diseases -- diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and Hepatitis B " .
The main aim of the mission is to vaccinate all the children by 2020 to free them from seven deathly diseases.
The districts covered under the mission are Churachanpur, Tamenglong, Senapati and Ukhrul and these four districts are part of the 201 districts in India where the mission was launched on the occasion of World Health Day," a health ministry official said here.

According to the official, out of 54.1 percent are vaccinated in Manipur while the mission would be implemented in four districts of Manipur for Churachandpur 18.80 percent; Tamenglong 29.70 percent; Ukhrul 33.80 percent and Senapati 47.70 percent.
Over 1176 medical staff will be utilized in the programme against 7797 of 0-2 years and 3408 pregnant women.
In Churachanpur, they plan to hold 182 sessions against 2821 of 0-2 years children and 551 pregnant women.
In Senapati, 306 sessions are planned against 2286 of 0-2 year children and 948 pregnant women.
In Tamenlong, 117 sessions are planed against 1418 of 0-2 year children and 627 pregnant women.
And in Ukhrul, 117 sessions are planed against 1271 of 0-2 year children and 1282 pregnant women.
The minister said though the Centre has selected four of the nine districts in Manipur for Mission Indradhanush, the state government would undertake the immunisation programme in all the eight districts of the state.
The Mission Indradhanush, formulated by the union health and family welfare ministry, intended to expand immunisation coverage in India to at least 90 percent children in next five years.
During the programme a Japanese encephalitis campaign also held.
Churachanpur District DC Luminthang; Director Health and Mission Director Dr O Ibomcha; Director Family Welfare Service Manipur Dr Kangujam Rajo Singh and Director AYUSH Manipur Dr K Lokendro Singh attended as Chief Guest, President and Guests of Honour respectively.
Top medical officers, doctors, nurses and ASHAs attended the programme.
