Tata, Shell apply for power projects

Following the formulation of a hydro-power policy, a number of companies including Tata have come forward for taking up power projects in Manipur.
An official source informed that so far 10 companies based outside the State have applied to the State Government for taking up power projects in the State.
The companies include Tata Company, GreenCo Energy, Shyam Metallic, Shyam Shell, Adhunik Power, NHPC and NEEPCO.
Companies which would be allowed to take up power projects would be selected after scrutiny by an expert group.
As for the ongoing assessment being carried out by SBI CAPS for privatisation of Electricity Department, a report would be submitted before the end of this year.
Significantly, Chief Minister O Ibobi is on a tour to Australia organised by NEEPCO for Power Ministers of North Eastern States.
Power Commissioner Rajesh Agarwal will also leave for Australia on November 15 to assist the Chief Minister.
