Thoubal, June 06 2019:
Saying that no other projects should be implemented in 44 Yaithibi Loukol in Thoubal district beside National Sports University (NSU) project, several local populace and volunteers of 44 Yaithibi Loukol Land Donor Association took out a protest torch rally from Langthabal Khunou to Loushi Khongjao, yesterday.
During the rally, the protesters urged the landowners to return the money they received from the State Government for the site.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protesters said that the land owners of Yaithibi Loukol had agreed to sell their land for the construction of NSU at a cheap price as it would help produce more sportspersons.
Since the location has been shifted, the Government should return the land to their owners, he said.
Cautioning that they will be forced to launch stringent agitation including bandh on Imphal-Moreh road from June 8 onwards, he appealed the Government to look into their demands and deliver at the earliest.
YLLDA's secretary, K Manihar also informed that a memorandum will be submitted to Chief Minister N Biren Singh regarding the matter, tomorrow.
He denounced the "Government's alternative plan to build a mega food park, logistic park and jewellers park" at the site.
Saying that the landowners of Yaithibi Loukol will never accept the construction of such parks in the area, he appealed the authority concerned to halt the demarcation process until an understanding is reached between the State Government and the denizens concerned.
