Imphal, November 05 2024:
The All Manipur Trade Union Congress (AMTUC) has urged the Labour Department to issue an advisory so that employers pay bonuses to their employees whose monthly wages are below Rs 10,000 .
Even though the Payment of Bonus Act 1965 was put into effect on April 1, 1982, workers have been denied the benefits of the Act for the past some years, said a press release issued by AMTUC.
As per section 19 (b) of the Act, employees should be given their bonus every year by the month of November, it said.
AMTUC said that it would take up necessary measures if the rights of workers/labourers are violated.
As per section 10 of the Act, employees whose monthly wages are below Rs 10,000 are entitled to a bonus of 8.33 per cent of their annual wage.
If this benefit is denied to the employees, AMTUC would fight for their rights under section 21 of the same Act, it said.
It also appealed to the Labour Department to initiate necessary proceedings so that all the employees get their due bonuses, and ensure that the Payment of Bonus Act 1965 is implemented without any interruption.
