Imphal, October 05 2015:
Federation of All Tribal Youth Club, Manipur (FATYCM) has strongly condemned the "act of partiality" and "injustice" committed by the State Government in the political appointment of the Chief Secretary.
In a statement, General Secretary Lethang Haokip categorically stated that such discriminations against tribal officers is not a new issue and added that what the BJP Ukhrul unit wrote was simply the fact and there is nothing communal.
"It is worth recalling that HSVeripam had been denied the Chief Engineer post and Peter Ngahanyui was also outrightly deprived of the DGP post earlier.
In fact all tribal employees in all ranks and files are facing discriminations," FATYCM stated.
The tribal body then said that it is shocking to learn that instead of voicing against the State Government's grave mistakes and plunders, some vested organisations are defending it.
The state BJP instead of fighting injustice is also found colluding and conniving with the Congress led O Ibobi's Government in further marginalising the tribals.
"So far the State BJP has been arbitrarily harping in the interest of a single community without consulting the tribal leaders.
No wonder, the State BJP faced defeat after defeat in all the elections under the present leadership despite the phenomenal Modi wave," it added.
FATYCM said that as much as some groups emphasise on territorial integrity, Manipur tribals have been continuously subjected to exploitations and oppressions.
"Instead of improvement, situations are worsening each passing day.
Having all hope belied, the best the tribals could hope for now is nothing less than a separate administration," it added.
"Despite the creation of Manipur by the colonial Britishers and also before the creation, two distinct entities are inherently present in Manipur, that of the tribals in the hills and general Meiteis in the plains.
The former was directly administered by the British while the latter was ruled by the Maharajahs.
History is proof that no two entities could flourish and prosper within the same cocoon," it stated.
"Politically, the tribals are at the receiving end.
Whereas 30,000 to more than 50,000 voters form a constituency in the hills, a mere 15,000 voters form a constituency in the plain.
Unlike other States all development programmes, offices and institutes are concentrated in the small plain of Manipur to the extreme point of saturation.
Manipur University, colleges, agricultural university, polytechnic, stadia, 'NIT,' medical colleges, nursing colleges and institutes, sports varsity, airport, AIR, etc.
all land consuming entities are located in the plains, And yet, the plain people are crying for land," FATYCM lamented.
